Photographs, Negatives and Slides
Photography has been called the great American pastime. But time is not kind to old prints, negatives, slides, and such. Because most old pictures do not have negatives, these one-of-a-kind treasures must be preserved and protected for future generations.
Motion picture film was, for the longest time, the best (and often only) available format for capturing motion, long before the advent of videotapes, or digital video. Now those oldest and best memories are fading, becoming brittle, and are in desperate need of saving.
The successor to motion picture films, videotapes were "the" quick, easy and cost-effective way to record in the 1970s, 80s, 90s, and into the 2000s. But now they need to be saved before these now-fragile tapes pass the point of no return.
Introduced for home use later than photography or home movies, people nevertheless seem to be fascinated by the sounds and voices of yesterday. It's time to dig out those outdated formats and preserve those irreplacable sounds before time renders them unplayable.
